$17,500 Community Building Fund Grant Allows Local Musical Theatre Company to Continue ‘Bringing Broadway to Georgian Bay’

Midland, ON – In September 2021, Georgian Bay Musical Theatre Company (GBMTC) received a $17,500 Community Building Fund grant. This grant from the Government of Ontario and administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), will afford GBMTC the opportunity to purchase state of the art lighting and sound equipment, thus permitting GBMTC to continue to offer training for theatre technicians and produce professional quality musical theatre productions for many more years to come.

“I was thrilled to hear of the Georgian Bay Musical Theatre Company’s funding through OTF, and the benefits it will bring for so many individuals partaking in, or looking to advance in, their craft of musical theatre,” said Jill Dunlop, MPP for Simcoe North. “The passion behind the theatre is evident in the entertainment they provide to residents and visitors alike, and the equipment purchased through this funding will enable them to extend its outreach. GBMTC is a cultural hub for youth to grow skills in performing, enabling artists of different ages to develop and display their talents. This OTF funding has enabled the GBMTC to move forward strategically to continue with their goal to make a difference in the community.”

GBMTC strives to make a difference in the community by igniting the fire of musical theatre in the 18 to 35-year-old demographic, maintaining that fire for the 35+ age group and inspiring those under the age of 18 to feel the same passion.  This grant will allow GBMTC to thrive and continue to make an impact within the arts community by offering the opportunity for performers, production team & stage crew members, musicians, visual artists and theatre technicians to work with equipment of the highest quality.

“The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be understated,” said Lori-Ann Clancy, President and Artistic Director of GBMTC. “The Midland and area community has an abundance of talent to showcase and GBMTC’s goal is to highlight these talents by preparing youth for a career in the arts. We cater to the entertainment needs of our ever growing and appreciative audience and we promote the local businesses of our founding sponsors; we are so excited to purchase the equipment needed to ensure that we can continue to meet or exceed their expectations.”

Part of the grant will also be used to rent equipment needed for this summer’s production of “Bring it On – The Musical’.  GBMTC is beyond excited that they’ll be back on stage this summer. The music for “Bring It On” was co-written by Lin-Manuel Miranda (writer and composer of the musicals “Hamilton” and “In the Heights”) and is the stage adaptation of the 2000 cheerleading comedy film. This high energy, fun packed show will infuse audiences with feel good vibes; something that we all need right now. Auditions for GBMTC’s production of ‘Bring It On – The Musical’ will be held at the beginning of May 2022.  If you would like to find out more information, visit gbmusicals.ca or follow them on socials @gbmusicals.
